I'm Carlos.

a former clinical psychologist delving into neuroscience and computational psychiatry.

Hi.

I'm a PhD researcher studying the neurocomputational mechanisms of anxiety and depression under Prof Oliver Robinson's supervision at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at UCL.

My Interests.

I'm interested in how computational modelling, especially reinforcement learning (RL), can help us understand the underlying mechanisms of emotional disorders and the diversity of patient trajectories and treatment response. At a more personal level, I enjoy reading novels, strolling around and taking some pictures with my trusty Nikon, learning new languages (Chinese at the moment) and exploring historical sites. Arch Linux user.

My Skills.

Data analysis

Univariate and multivariate statistical analysis using a GLM perspective. Machine learning methods such as canonical correlation analysis (CCA). And a fair bit of Bayesian data analysis.

Neuroimaging

Preprocessing and analysis of task-based fMRI and dMRI with FSL. Some experience with NiPreps such as fMRIPrep. I have some experience collecting and analysing EEG data.

Coding

R, Python, Stan, Matlab, Unix Shell, Markdown, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Besides this very website, you can see some of my code on my GitHub.

Computational modelling

Computational modelling for behaviour and cognition. Particularly, I have used reinforcement learning (RL) and hierarchical Bayesian models to explain behavioural data.

Languages

I speak English, Spanish and French. I can speak a bit of Portuguese as well.

IT and others

I know enough to know how to exit vim and not to try running rm -rf /* with superuser privileges. Also, I have years of experience as a CBT therapist.

Get in touch   :)

I'm available for collaborations.

If you have an idea for a collaboration or just fancy saying hi, then please do get in touch.
